Additions and Renovations Project Title: Beck - Towson
The architect added a 16' addition across the back of an existing house on a narrow lot in Towson, MD. Attached to the addition on the rear of the house is a large triangular deck. The inside can be opened to the deck by a 24' wide clear opening realized by six 4' wide stacking sliding doors which stack on both sides of the opening. There is also an 8' sliding door on the front of the house. At times a bird would fly clear through the house. Floating above the first floor in the addition is a triangular balcony which is set back from the sides of the addition allowing light from the side skylights to penetrate to the lower level. The roof on the addition consists of two hyperbolic parabaloid structures, divided at the peak by a continuous skylight. There are also continuous skylights at each of the outer edges of this roof. The kitchen, dining, living room are all in one continuous space.
